What is on file for my candidate? A file on every member of Congress, governor and 2026 nominee: who funds them, the decisions on their desk, and the sources.
Jon Husted
Republican, running for U.S. Senate special. Now U.S. Senate OH.
Subject: Sen. Jon Husted, Republican, Ohio, appointed in January 2025 to the seat JD Vance vacated, running in the 2026 special election against Sherrod Brown Compiled: October 25, 2026 for the On Point Politics watchdog database, onpointpolitics.us Data cutoff: FEC data through October 14, 2026 as compiled by VoteLog; independent expenditures through October 23, 2026. Next scheduled data drop: FEC 48 hour reports through Election Day and the post-general report due December 3, 2026.
Bottom line up front
Husted is a former Ohio lieutenant governor who sits on Appropriations, EPW, HELP, Small Business and Aging. His campaign has raised $19,894,786 through October 14, 2026, under a third of Brown's, but outside money benefiting him totals $230,846,544, the most of any subject in this batch, per VoteLog, votelog.org.
Interests with money and a live decision:
- Party and Trump world. SLF at $80,413,044 and No Going Back PAC at $27,770,039 lead his outside side. MAGA Inc. funds No Going Back with $200 million across races.
- Crypto. Defend American Jobs, Fairshake's affiliate, counts $55,760,700 for him and against Brown, the former Banking chair.
- Utilities and energy. FirstEnergy money benefited his past campaigns through dark money groups. NiSource and Chevron PACs gave to his campaign, Chevron gave $200,000 to a super PAC backing him, and he sponsors the Ratepayer Protection Act on data center power costs.
- Billionaire megadonors. Elon Musk has put more than $7 million into groups backing Husted, per Guardrails Action, ohiocapitaljournal.com.
Committee structure and treasurer
The roster lists FEC candidate ID S6OH00304. NOTUS through Signal Ohio says he raised $7.3 million in 2025 across two political committees it did not name, signalohio.org. The committee names, IDs and treasurer were not verified. Spokesperson Amy Natoce speaks for the campaign. VoteLog shows $7,229,768 in transfers from authorized committees and $2,733,610 from PACs.
Party and Trump world
Documented. The NRSC gave $62,000 on August 27, 2025. SLF's cycle funders include Musk at $168,000,000, One Nation at $132,907,000 and Miriam Adelson at $30,000,000. AFP Action at $20,667,155 is funded by Koch Inc. at $30,000,000 and Stand Together Inc. at $26,000,000 across all races. 75 PAC counts $10,007,985; its funders were not shown.
Inference: His hard dollar gap is covered almost entirely by national groups. As an appointee who must run again in 2028, he owes his seat to the same donors twice.
Crypto and finance
Documented. Defend American Jobs first reported $11.4 million on September 24, 2026, as part of a $30 million initial pledge, cointelegraph.com. Fairshake gave it $106,000,000 this cycle. The American Investment Council PAC gave $10,000. Natoce said Brown faced an onslaught of ads.
Inference: No public Husted position on market structure was found. A large bloc with no stated position on its live issue is a flag under the protocol.
Utilities and energy
Documented. FactCheck.org reports FirstEnergy put $1 million into Freedom Frontier, which gave more than $1 million to a super PAC backing his 2017 governor run, and $2.5 million into State Solutions, an RGA affiliated nonprofit that backed the 2018 DeWine and Husted ticket, factcheck.org. He pushed for HB 6, signed July 23, 2019. Texts showed executives expected him to press for a larger bailout. He testified in March 2026 at the state trial of former FirstEnergy executives and said he did not recall a 2018 dinner. He has not been charged or accused of wrongdoing. Natoce said he focused on saving the nuclear plants, that bad actors worked without the policy team's knowledge, and called Brown's ad claims baseless lies.
Campaign PACs: NiSource at $10,000 across four dates and Chevron Employees at $10,000. Chevron gave $200,000 to a super PAC supporting him in June 2026, and a nuclear energy super PAC spent almost $75,000 for him in the second quarter, ohiocapitaljournal.com. His Ratepayer Protection Act would ask states to consider making data centers pay for their power.
Inference: The utility tie is history plus a current bill. His data center bill is softer than Brown's pledge, which matters to the same utilities and tech firms.
Own finances and disclosure history
The Ohio Democratic Party, relaying NBC4 reporting from June 2026, says he joined the Heartland Bank board in March 2022, sold stock worth nearly $60,000 during its merger with German American Bank, and reported a $27,000 bank payment after leaving the board, ohiodems.org. NBC4 also reported his wife held up to $15,000 in Intel stock. These are Secondary because the NBC4 report itself was not read and no Husted response was found. No net worth estimate from a disclosure was retrieved.
Enforcement and controversies
- FirstEnergy and HB 6. Covered above, with his response.
- Work ethic remarks. Brown condemned Husted's comments that our work ethic is broken and that people in poverty are not very experienced at navigating the real world, springfieldnewssun.com. Husted's response was not found.
- No FEC or Senate Ethics matter was found in sources read.
